Becoming: Transition

McColl Center

July 25, 2026

Open through:

What does it mean for one to transition and become? What does it take to achieve the next level? If given the opportunity, time and space, I believe many artists can do exactly that. For the past year at McColl Center, six Charlotte-based artists have been transitioning deeper into their practice. Carving new concepts out of nothing and molding them into objects that are a direct reflection of their personal thoughts and journeys. Topics of research range as wide as human vulnerability to redefining what community means to understanding a new kind of evil and grotesque. All of these topics are politically relevant to our current social landscape allowing them to transition to the next level of their careers. No longer simply "local" and now emerging to rise, transition, and become.

McColl Center and Carla Aaron-Lopez present Becoming: Transition featuring Julie Boldt, Kalin Devone, Mono Feo, Annie Heisel, Quynh Vu, and Will White.

McColl Center’s Fellowship Program supports emerging and mid-career artists through dedicated time, space, mentorship, and professional development opportunities designed to strengthen artistic practice and foster meaningful connections within Charlotte’s creative community. Throughout the Fellowship, Artist Fellows engaged in studio visits, critical dialogue, and collaborative learning experiences while developing new work.
